Troy University announced this week that Bryen Spriggs will join the program as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2026‑27 season, a move that underscores the school’s intent to bolster its men’s basketball staff with proven talent.
A Coach With Championship Pedigree
Spriggs arrives after a five‑year stint at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he helped the Miners force turnovers at a national‑leading rate and contributed to a 2024 Conference USA Tournament Championship game appearance. His work there was part of a turnaround that produced the program’s first 20‑win season in seven years and secured a postseason berth for the first time since 2015.
Prior to his time at UTEP, Spriggs served as a special assistant at Abilene Christian University, where his contributions helped the team capture the Southland Tournament title and upset a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. He also headed the Community College of Beaver County, guiding the Titans to a 75‑12 record, two WPCC championships and a stint as athletic director.
His coaching journey began in community colleges, including roles at Mineral Area College and Lincoln Trail Community College, and earlier he was a graduate assistant at Slippery Rock University after a two‑year playing career there. Spriggs holds a bachelor’s degree in professional studies with a concentration in sport management and a master’s in criminal justice, both earned from Slippery Rock.
Head coach Adam Howard expressed enthusiasm about the hire, noting Spriggs’ extensive network and track record of success as a catalyst for immediate and long‑term growth of the Troy program.
