Tennessee’s basketball program is turning its attention to the 2027 recruiting cycle, aiming to secure a high‑caliber point guard who can shape the future of the team.
J’Lon Lyons, a 6‑foot‑3, 165‑pound prospect from Clinton Grace Christian High School in Maryland, arrives with a national ranking of No. 13 among point guards and the distinction of being the top player in his state.
The Vols have extended a scholarship to Lyons, placing them among eight finalists that also include Maryland, Syracuse, Butler, Virginia, Georgetown, Washington and VCU, though the recruit has not yet visited the campus.
Lyons’ recruitment timeline began with an early offer from Morehead State, and since then he has added suitors such as George Mason, Texas A&M, Florida State, Seton Hall, Oklahoma State, Providence, Virginia Tech, Mississippi State, Indiana, Villanova, George Washington, Alabama, Missouri, Pittsburgh, Boston College and Cincinnati.
While Tennessee has yet to land a verbal commitment in the 2027 class, the program already boasts four pledges for the 2026 cohort — Ralph Scott, Manny Green, Marquis Clark and Chris Washington Jr. — signaling a steady pipeline of talent.
The upcoming visit to Knoxville could prove pivotal, as the coaching staff hopes a first‑hand experience will tip the scales in their favor.
