The 2026 football campaign at Emporia State University is set to ignite in early August as the Hornets open training camp, marking the start of preparations for the 128th season.
Training Camp Schedule
Reporting and compliance meetings will take place on August 1 and 2, followed by the first on‑field session on August 3 at 9:20 a.m., when players will take the field in helmets only.
A week later, on August 7, the squad will conduct its inaugural full‑pads workout, a milestone that signals the transition to full contact. The team will observe its first NCAA‑mandated off day on August 9 before the annual Booster Night on August 14, which will feature a public full‑pad practice for fans.
Media Day is slated for August 16 at 2:00 p.m. in Welch Stadium, giving the public a chance to hear from coaches and players ahead of the season.
Season Opener and Home Game
The Hornets will open the season on August 27 at Minot State in North Dakota, with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The first home game will follow on September 12 against Michigan Tech, also at Welch Stadium, and will be preceded by a Hornet Walk and a Live at the Hive tailgate.
Returning 13 starters give the team continuity, highlighted by All‑American linebacker Landon Boss and other All‑MIAA selections such as receiver Malik O'Atis, defensive back Tyler Schultze, and offensive lineman Trevion Mitchell.
Season tickets are available through esuhornets.com, while season passes for the MIAA Network will go on sale in August, providing fans with extensive coverage of the Hornets' schedule.
With a blend of experienced leadership and fresh energy, the Hornets look to build on last year’s momentum and aim for a strong performance in the upcoming campaign.
