The University of Minnesota Duluth revealed on Thursday that Logan Lutner, a 6‑foot‑2 defenseman from Maple Grove, has officially committed to the Bulldogs for the 2027‑28 season. The announcement marks a pivotal moment for the program as it secures a promising talent for the upcoming campaign.
A Year in the USHL
Before arriving in Duluth, Lutner will suit up for the USHL’s Madison Capitols during the next season. The move is designed to give him additional competitive experience and exposure to a higher level of play, preparing him for the transition to college hockey.
Lutner’s decision to switch his commitment from the University of Denver to UMD reflects a strategic choice aimed at aligning his development path with the Bulldogs’ coaching staff and system. He originally pledged to Denver but reassessed his options after evaluating the prospects for growth and ice time.
During the previous season, Lutner recorded 15 points in 62 games with the National Team Development Program and added eight more points across the USNTDP, USHL, and U18 World Juniors squads. Those performances highlighted his defensive reliability and offensive contributions, drawing attention from multiple collegiate programs.
Looking Ahead
Coaches at UMD are optimistic that Lutner’s blend of size, skill, and experience will bolster the team’s defensive core and add depth to the power play. As the Bulldogs gear up for the 2027‑28 season, the addition of a player with proven international exposure is expected to elevate the squad’s competitiveness in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.
