Funding and Timeline
The $3 million project is being financed entirely through La Joya Independent School District’s capital budget. Construction is slated to commence at the end of August, with workers expected to finish the turf replacement, new dugouts, a perimeter fence and batting‑cage nets by December, just in time for the upcoming baseball season.
District officials say the upgrades are designed to create a durable, high‑performance surface that will benefit both the school’s athletic programs and its physical‑education curriculum.
A Vision for the Program
S.B. Pierson, La Joya ISD’s Chief Operations Officer, explained that the renovation is part of a broader effort to reclaim the campus’s status as a premier athletic hub in the Rio Grande Valley. “Our goal is to give student‑athletes a facility that matches the caliber of competition they face,” Pierson said.
The improvements are also intended to foster community pride and attract more participants to the school’s baseball and softball teams, which have seen participation numbers dip in recent years.
Beyond the field itself, the district hopes the upgraded infrastructure will serve as a model for future capital projects across the region, demonstrating how targeted investments can revitalize school sports programs.
