Seth Williams, a four‑star safety ranked No. 37 nationally, announced his commitment to the University of Georgia over Clemson on July 31, 2024, cementing a recruiting decision that had been in flux for months.
In a statement that highlighted the Bulldogs’ emphasis on his ball‑skills and size, Williams said Georgia’s coaching staff recognized something he believes few others see: some of the best ball skills in the country.
He described himself as a versatile defender who can make tackles in the box, cover ground in open space, and excel in man coverage, traits that attracted both safeties coach Travaris Robinson and head coach Kirby Smart.
Williams transferred to Lakeside High School from Jackson High before his junior year, gaining national exposure playing on Cam Newton’s 7‑on‑7 team and catching the eye of recruiters across the country.
Last season he logged 81 tackles, two interceptions, a forced fumble, 10 receptions for 315 yards and four touchdowns for a 3‑7 team, numbers that understate his impact according to Lakeside coach Morris Starr, who praised his rangy build and physicality.
After a verbal pledge to Clemson on March 24, 2024, Williams backed off on April 9, delayed his announcement from July 3 to July 31, and ultimately chose Georgia, citing the program’s proximity to Atlanta as a factor that would make it easier for his family to attend games.
The commitment marks Georgia’s 20th pledge in the 2027 recruiting class and makes Williams the second defensive back to join, following four‑star safety Adryan Cole, underscoring the Bulldogs’ continued dominance in the Southeast.
