A Dominant Display in Nassau
The Arkansas Razorbacks opened their preseason tour with a commanding 106-59 win over the Bahamas national team at the Baha Mar Convention Center in Nassau. The exhibition, part of a four‑game swing in the Bahamian capital, highlighted the Razorbacks' defensive intensity and offensive firepower.
Arkansas turned the game into a showcase of pressure, forcing 26 turnovers and blocking 13 shots while holding the Bahamas to a mere 36% shooting night. The defensive onslaught set the tone early, as the Razorbacks held the opposition scoreless until the 16:26 mark of the first half and did not allow a field goal until 14:15.
Offensively, the Razorbacks exploded for 42 fastbreak points and built a 50-19 halftime lead that stretched to a 42‑point advantage at the break. Five Arkansas players reached double figures, led by Jordan Smith's 22 points, while Abdou Toure contributed 16 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks.
The scoring parade included Billy Richmond, JJ Andrews and Davion Thomson, each adding double‑digit points. Arkansas also capitalized on turnovers, converting 37 points from the opposition's miscues, a statistic that underscored the team's aggressive transition game.
The Bahamas, missing several NBA regulars such as VJ Edgecombe, Buddy Hield and DeAndre Ayton, relied on prospects like Javez Coleby, who topped their scoring with 18 points. The absence of established stars limited their competitiveness, allowing Arkansas to dominate the paint and the boards.
Arkansas also faced its own setbacks, with freshman Miikka Muurinen sidelined by NCAA eligibility issues and Georgia transfer Jeremiah Wilkinson leaving the game after an unintentional undercut while dunking. Despite these hurdles, associate head coach Kenny Payne directed the team from the bench while head coach John Calipari watched from the stands.
The Razorbacks are slated to face defending Canadian national champion Carleton University at 5 p.m. Central on Saturday, continuing a busy summer schedule that will see them play four exhibitions in Nassau before returning home.
