The Blue Mountain Major Division baseball team captured a decisive 9-2 win against Newtown Edgmont, clinching a spot in the Pennsylvania state championship. The victory, achieved on Tuesday night, marks the culmination of a perfect 3-0 week for the squad.
Offensive firepower
Eight hitters for Blue Mountain drove in runs, underscoring the team’s depth. Judein Marx contributed two RBIs, while Owen Borger’s single in the second inning sparked a four-run burst that put the team ahead early. Chase Goodman added a double in the third frame, and Anthony Grimminger sealed the game with a solo home run in the fifth.
Pitching performance
On the mound, Chase Goodman delivered a solid outing, throwing four innings with four strikeouts while allowing only two hits and three walks. His control kept Newtown Edgmont’s offense at bay and allowed the bats to build a comfortable lead.
Looking ahead
The championship round kicks off Monday evening, where Blue Mountain will face the state’s top contender. A win there guarantees a berth in the Mid-Atlantic Regional in Bristol, Connecticut, scheduled for August 8-14. From there, the victorious team will travel to Williamsport to compete in the Little League World Series beginning August 19.
The achievement also carries historic weight, as the last Schuylkill County team to capture the Pennsylvania title was Pottsville’s 1997 Railway Park squad. Blue Mountain aims to add a new chapter to the county’s baseball legacy.
