Concord University has named Abbie Smith as its new graduate assistant for the women’s basketball program, slated to join the staff ahead of the 2026‑27 season.
A Stellar Playing Career
During her four‑year tenure at Concord, Smith climbed to third place all‑time in both points (1,911) and rebounds (1,529), earning All‑Mountain East Conference honors each year and being crowned MEC Player of the Year in 2026.
She capped her collegiate run with All‑Atlantic Region selections in 2025 and 2026, earned Atlantic Region Player of the Year in 2026, and received Second Team All‑American recognition.
Smith’s senior class, which also featured Kennedy Scales, posted a program‑best 64 wins, including 18 victories in the 2025‑26 campaign, the most since the 2021‑22 season.
She will work alongside head coach Tesla Southcott, who begins her fifth season in November, and assistant coach Morgan Mitchell as the Mountain Lions open their 2026‑27 slate at home against Ferrum on November 9.
The full schedule for the upcoming season will be released in August, giving fans a first look at the slate of matchups.
