A Strategic Addition for the RedHawks
Miami University announced this week that Andrew Dakich will serve as an assistant coach for the RedHawk men's basketball program, bringing a blend of playing experience and coaching acumen to the roster.
Dakich arrives after four seasons at Illinois State, where he helped the Redbirds increase their win total each year and guided the team to its best record since the 2016‑17 campaign during the 2025‑26 season. In that role he also functioned as the offensive coordinator, shaping a dynamic attack that proved pivotal in the team's turnaround.
His coaching journey includes stints at Ohio State, where he contributed both as a player and later as a staff member, as well as a period as director of basketball operations at Elon University. At Ohio State, Dakich was part of a squad that captured 25 victories and advanced to the NCAA Tournament's Round of 32, having previously played in all 34 games for the Buckeyes and earned All‑Big Ten Academic honors three times.
A graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in history and a master's in sports coaching from Ohio State, Dakich expressed enthusiasm about joining the Miami staff and engaging with the RedHawk community. He joins a program led by head coach Travis Steele and senior advisor Chris Holtmann, who will work closely with him to build on the team's recent momentum.
The university's athletic director highlighted Dakich's ability to develop talent and foster academic excellence, noting that his background aligns with Miami's commitment to competitive success and scholarly achievement. Fans can expect to see a fresh perspective on the court as the RedHawks prepare for the upcoming season.
