The Rapid City Rush have secured the rights to forward Ryan Mahshie, inking the 27‑year‑old to a contract that will carry him through the 2026‑27 ECHL season. The announcement came on Tuesday, marking the latest move in a busy offseason for the franchise.
Mahshie arrives after a season in which he recorded 17 points — six goals and 11 assists — over 45 games with the Wheeling Nailers. His offensive output, while modest, reflects a player who has consistently contributed at the ECHL level.
The trade that brought Mahshie to Rapid City was finalized on March 13, when the Rush sent forward Eric Parker and defenseman Cole Tymkin to the Nailers in exchange for his rights. The deal was completed on June 20, officially closing the transaction.
Across 119 career ECHL appearances, Mahshie has amassed 26 points, a tally that includes 11 goals and 15 assists. He has previously suited up for several clubs, but his most recent stint with Wheeling highlighted his ability to generate chances in a depth role.
A Coach’s Reunion
Heading the Rush’s roster will be head coach Dave Smith, under whom Mahshie previously skated for three seasons at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute before completing his collegiate career at the University of Connecticut. Smith noted that Mahshie’s familiarity with the organization could accelerate his integration.
The move underscores the Rush’s strategy of blending youthful energy with proven ECHL experience as they aim to remain competitive in the league’s Eastern Conference. Fans can expect to see Mahshie on the ice when the Rush open the upcoming season.
