The Grand Rapids Griffins announced today that they have signed goaltender Jonathan Lemieux to a one‑year, two‑way contract for the 2026‑27 season, a move that adds depth to their goaltending corps.
Lemieux, 25, arrives after a productive stint with the ECHL’s Kalamazoo Wings, where he appeared in 26 games and posted an 11‑9‑4 record with a 2.95 goals‑against average and a .906 save percentage.
The native of Canada also made his American Hockey League debut with the Abbotsford Canucks in the 2025‑26 campaign, recording a 0‑0‑1 mark, a 2.82 GAA and a .902 save percentage across two appearances.
Across his first full professional season in the ECHL, Lemieux compiled a 42‑44‑11 record in 105 games, including four shutouts, a 2.96 GAA and a .907 save percentage, numbers that underscore his steady development.
Prior to turning pro, he earned the 2022‑23 USports OUA East Goaltender and Rookie of the Year honors while backstopping Concordia University to a 16‑4‑0 record, three shutouts, a 1.98 GAA and a .933 save percentage in 21 games.
His junior career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League spanned six seasons with the Val‑d’Or Foreurs, Saint John Sea Dogs and Moncton Wildcats, where he posted a 78‑75‑18 record, three shutouts and a 3.69 GAA in 184 games.
Looking Ahead
With the new contract in place, Lemieux is expected to compete for a backup role behind the Griffins’ starter while remaining ready to step in should injuries arise, a scenario that has become increasingly common in the modern NHL‑AHL landscape.
Fans can look forward to seeing the young netminder bring his disciplined style and calm presence to the ice, potentially sparking a resurgence for a franchise that has been rebuilding its roster over the past few seasons.
