A New Chapter for Women’s Baseball
Mike Rotman, a Windsor native and Emmy‑nominated producer, announced in late 2025 that he had become an investor in the Women’s Pro Baseball League, a fledgling professional circuit aimed at showcasing elite female talent.
Rotman’s career spans decades of television writing and production, most notably a 1997 Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Variety or Music Program for his work on ‘Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher’. He also runs Rustic Retreats of Big Bear, a vacation‑rental business in California.
The inaugural WPBL season opens with a double‑header at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois, marking the first official games of the league and drawing attention from both sports enthusiasts and investors.
Speaking about the venture, Rotman highlighted the growing momentum behind women’s sports and emphasized that the league offers a long‑overdue pipeline for women to pursue professional baseball — a career path that has been largely absent for seven decades.
Beyond financial backing, Rotman serves as an owner and chief content officer for the WPBL, a role that blends his media expertise with his love of baseball. He envisions a future where the league expands to new markets, including a possible franchise in Connecticut that could play at Dunkin’ Park in Hartford.
Rotman believes the WPBL can inspire young girls in Little League to keep playing, break barriers, and eventually dominate the professional ranks. He also sees the league as a cultural touchstone that celebrates athleticism and gender equity.
