The Beacon Bulldogs, a youth travel baseball squad for players aged 11 and under, captured the Brewster Crush Summer Slam Tournament championship over the weekend of July 11‑12. Competing against eight teams, the Bulldogs navigated a challenging bracket to finish first.
A weekend of close contests and clutch performances
Seeded No. 3, the Bulldogs opened the tournament with a dominant 11‑0 win over Brewster Crush, highlighted by Ryan McNally’s one‑hit pitching. They followed with a narrow 8‑6 loss before regrouping for the semifinals.
In the semifinal, the Bulldogs edged a second Brewster squad 9‑5, setting up a final showdown against the Hudson Valley Hawks. The championship game stretched to a 14‑13 walk‑off victory, with Holland Brickman scoring the decisive run.
MVP Konco shines with four hits
Jayden Konco was named tournament MVP after delivering four hits, including three doubles, throughout the event. His offensive surge helped anchor the team’s comeback efforts and sealed the title with a strong defensive showing.
Coach Wayne Theiss, along with assistants Frank Boyle, Pete McNally and Sean Witkowski, guided the Bulldogs through the tournament’s highs and lows. Their strategic adjustments and emphasis on teamwork proved pivotal in the final innings.
