Troy University has named Bryen Spriggs as its new assistant coach for the 2026‑27 men’s basketball season, filling a vacancy left by the departure of longtime aide Adam Howard.
Spriggs arrives after a five‑year stint at the University of Texas at El Paso, where he helped the Miners capture the 2024 Conference USA Tournament title and finish among the nation’s leaders in steals and forced turnovers.
Championship pedigree
During the 2021‑22 campaign Spriggs guided UTEP to its first 20‑win season in seven years and secured a postseason berth, a milestone not achieved since 2015.
His earlier role as special assistant at Abilene Christian University culminated in a Southland Tournament championship and a stunning upset of a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Beyond the bench
Before entering full‑time coaching, Spriggs served as head coach and athletic director at the Community College of Beaver County, compiling a 75‑12 record and winning two WPCC championships.
He also held assistant positions at Mineral Area College and Lincoln Trail Community College, and previously contributed as a graduate assistant at Slippery Rock University, where he earned both a bachelor’s degree in sport management and a master’s in criminal justice.
Spriggs’ professional background extends beyond basketball; he has worked as an admissions assistant, drug and alcohol counselor, case manager, and criminal‑justice professor, bringing a diverse skill set to his new role at Troy.
