Lincoln Little League clinches Rhode Island title
In a tightly contested championship game on August 1, Lincoln Little League edged out Barrington 2-1, securing the state crown and a berth in the Metro Regional tournament.
Right‑hander Tucker Choiniere delivered a complete-game effort, throwing 65 minutes of work, allowing just one run and striking out two batters on 59 pitches.
The decisive blow came in the fifth inning when Hugo Fiero’s ground ball to first base drove in the winning run, breaking a 1-1 tie and sparking celebration among the Lincoln bench.
Milo Sheridan opened the scoring early, capitalizing on a passed ball to put Lincoln ahead before Barrington answered with a single from Sawyer Blanchet and a two‑out hit by Rocco Coppolino to level the game.
Lincoln’s defense remained flawless behind Choiniere, preserving the narrow lead and preventing any further rallies from the opposition.
Sheridan, who had been one out away from a complete game in the earlier round, was recognized as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player for his all‑around contributions.
A family connection and a historic program
Lincoln manager Kevin Greene, whose stepfather Randy Hien once guided the league to eight championships and two World Series appearances beginning in 1999, watched proudly from the dugout as his team added another chapter to the club’s storied legacy.
The victory marks Lincoln’s fourth District 4 title in the past five years, following championships by Cumberland (2022), Smithfield (2023) and Burrillville (2025), underscoring the region’s dominance in Little League baseball.
A rainstorm forced a Friday night postponement, delaying the final’s conclusion until Saturday, but the delay only added to the anticipation surrounding the young champions.
Next up, Lincoln will travel to Bristol, Connecticut, to meet New York’s Port Washington on August 8 at 4 p.m., a matchup that promises another chapter in the team’s pursuit of national glory.
