A three-game sweep in Canada
Marquette University’s men’s basketball squad wrapped up its summer campaign with a decisive 102-65 win over Fraser Valley on August 1, capping a flawless 3-0 run that included victories over Calgary and Trinity Western.
The trip marked the first foreign tour the Golden Eagles have undertaken on an annual basis, a privilege made possible by a recent NCAA rule change that previously limited such excursions to once every four years.
Coach Chris Beard’s men demonstrated sharp shooting, hitting 60.6% from the field overall while holding their Canadian opponents to just 30% shooting in the final game.
Key contributors such as Royce Parham, who posted 20 points against Calgary, and Michael Phillips II, who added 15 points off the bench, helped spread the scoring load across a deep roster.
The tour also served as a homecoming for some players, with several noting the significance of returning to Vancouver, a city the program last visited in September 2007.
Beyond the wins, the excursion highlighted the program’s growing international footprint and set the stage for future overseas schedules that could further elevate the team’s profile.
