The excitement around TCU football’s 2026 season opener is building, with the game scheduled for August 29 in Dublin, Ireland. The matchup against North Carolina will mark the first time the Horned Frogs open a campaign on Irish soil, drawing attention from fans and analysts alike.
Adding a personal touch to the countdown, former TCU defensive back Jason Teague has been featured in a campaign that ties his old jersey number 27 to the days remaining until kickoff. The visual countdown underscores the connection between past and present as the program looks to build on recent successes.
Teague’s collegiate career was marked by notable achievements. In 2020 he earned All‑Mountain West Conference Second Team honors after posting 37 tackles, nine pass breakups, two forced fumbles and two interceptions during a Rose Bowl‑winning season. Over three years at TCU he appeared in 31 games, accumulating 60 tackles, 14 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and four interceptions.
His path to TCU was not linear. After beginning his college career at Tyler Junior College, Teague transferred to the university and originally signed with LSU before ultimately committing to the Horned Frogs. He earned his first defensive start in 2009, a milestone that helped shape his subsequent contributions.
At Carthage High School in Texas, Teague excelled on both sides of the ball. As a senior he was named State 3‑A Defensive Most Valuable Player after recording eight interceptions, five blocked punts and 15 offensive touchdowns. A junior season saw him earn all‑district honors with three interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
A Legacy in the Making
The upcoming Dublin opener offers a symbolic moment for the program, linking the legacy of players like Teague with the ambition to compete on a global stage. As the countdown continues, the Horned Frogs hope to translate that heritage into a strong start to the 2026 campaign.
Teague’s story reflects a broader narrative of perseverance and adaptation. From junior college roots to a pivotal role in a Rose Bowl victory, his journey mirrors the resilience that TCU aims to embody as it prepares for a historic opening game abroad.
