A historic college hockey matchup is set to unfold at Madison Square Garden on November 28, when the University of Maine men's ice hockey team takes on Cornell in the latest edition of the Frozen Apple series.
The game, slated to begin at noon Eastern Time, will mark the first afternoon contest in the series' history, a scheduling decision that accommodates a New York Rangers evening game and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
This meeting adds another chapter to a rivalry that has visited neutral sites eight times, with Cornell holding a 2‑1 edge in the most recent NCAA quarterfinal encounter three years ago.
Notable Figures
Among the notable figures expected to be on the sidelines are coach Ben Barr, Cornell’s Joel Fisher, and alumni Jude Killy, Casey Jones and Dr. Nicki Moore, each bringing a wealth of experience to the event.
Maine head coach Ben Barr described the occasion as a special college hockey experience in a great venue and city, while Cornell’s staff look forward to testing their squad against a Black Bears team that finished the 2025‑26 season with an 18‑14‑3 record.
Tickets for the contest will go on sale Wednesday, July 22, at noon EDT through GoBlackBears.com/MIHTickets, with the transaction platform Ticketmaster handling the sales.
Cornell will be playing at Madison Square Garden for the 31st time in program history and the 23rd time at the venue's current location, where it boasts an 8‑3‑2 record over its last 13 appearances.
The Frozen Apple series, which began in 2012 with a 5‑1 victory for Cornell over Michigan, has seen only one setback—a 4‑1 loss to Harvard in 2018—making this next installment a highly anticipated showcase of East Coast college hockey.
