Virginia Tech is set to kick off its 2026 fall camp with a series of media‑friendly sessions that will give fans and reporters a first look at the team’s progress heading into the upcoming season.
Media Access Schedule
The first practice open to the public and the press is scheduled for August 6 at 6:45 p.m. Eastern, and it will feature head coach James Franklin along with a handful of returning starters who will be available for post‑practice interviews.
Media Day on August 9 will be a busy affair, with Franklin’s press conference slated for noon to 12:45 p.m., while offensive coordinator Ty Howle, defensive coordinator Brent Pry and special teams coordinator Doug Shearer join him for a joint availability from 12:50 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. The day will be split into two breakout sessions — one focusing on offense and special teams from 1:35 p.m. to 2 p.m., and a defensive session from 2 p.m. to 2:25 p.m.
First‑year players will not be part of the interview pool on Media Day, but the schedule promises a steady stream of access throughout the camp.
The next media‑available workout arrives on August 13, again at roughly 6:30 p.m., and will again include an assistant coach and a select group of student‑athletes for interview opportunities.
Fans will get a chance to capture the action on August 16 during Football Fan Day, when media are invited to photograph and film the program from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Only two players will be on hand for brief interviews during that window.
A second post‑practice media session is slated for August 21, followed by Picture Day on August 22, when photographers can shoot from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. without any interview component. The final open practice of the camp will take place on August 25, again at about 6:30 p.m., with Franklin and several key players back in the spotlight.
All of Franklin’s press conferences will be transcribed and posted on the Virginia Tech On SI site within two hours of each event, ensuring that the narrative stays current for followers across the country.
The excitement will carry into the regular season, where the Hokies open on September 5 against VMI at 7:30 p.m. Eastern. The game will be streamed on the ACC Network and marks the first meeting between the two programs since 1984, adding a fresh storyline to the schedule.
