On July 19, officers from the Avon Police Department responded to a call that an owl had become entangled in the netting of a local soccer field.
The bird, caught in the mesh, was unable to free itself, its wings and talons at risk of further entanglement as it struggled.
Officer Steve Vogel and Sergeant David Orlando carefully approached the distressed raptor, holding it down to prevent injury while they cut the netting away.
Footage posted on the department’s Facebook page shows the swift, deliberate movements of the officers, underscoring the importance of quick action in wildlife emergencies.
The owl was released unharmed moments later, soaring back into the sky — a small victory that highlights how everyday human infrastructure can pose unexpected threats to wildlife.
