The Gainesville Sun has released its list of the nine most promising defensive linemen for the 2026 high school season in the Gainesville area, highlighting a cohort that blends raw talent with college‑level potential.
Standout Performers
Cole Chong‑You, a senior at Santa Fe, earned first‑team All‑Area honors after recording ten sacks, including a three‑sack effort against Zarephath, a performance that has already drawn early recruiter attention.
Jaden McCray, a Columbia senior, led the region with 49 tackles, 12 for loss, and eight sacks, a production line that secured offers from Middle Tennessee State, North Texas and UMass.
Jaylen Underwood, also from Columbia, added 51 tackles and three sacks, attracting interest from UMass, North Texas, Florida A&M and Jackson State.
Nate Raymond, a Bradford senior, compiled 92 tackles and 11 sacks, placing him among the top 16 players in Class 2A.
Dracen Martin, a Buchholz transfer from Hawthorne, posted 12.5 sacks and helped the team to a state championship win over Blountstown, earning a Division I‑FBS scholarship from South Florida.
Other standouts include Zaidon Bon of Trenton, who amassed 64 tackles with ten in a 39‑21 victory over Central and also plays on the offensive line, and Messiah Gent of Hawthorne, who logged 100 tackles and delivered 12 in a playoff win.
Trenton’s Zayne Braswell contributed 34 tackles, one sack, 429 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while Eastside’s Quintin Lewis Jr. recorded two sacks in four games despite injury setbacks.
Despite losses from Eastside and Hawthorne, the area’s defensive depth suggests a strong 2026 outlook, with coaches already eyeing the next wave of talent.
