A Regional Final for the Ages
The Eagle Lake 12U baseball team captured its first-ever regional championship, defeating Jacksonville 5-4 in a tightly contested final that unfolded under the bright lights of the regional tournament.
The victory marks a milestone for the program, delivering the franchise’s inaugural appearance at the Cal Ripken Baseball Major/70 (12U) World Series, scheduled to begin on August 5 in Branson, Missouri.
Coach Jake Wren, who has guided the squad for several seasons, praised the team’s balanced offensive arsenal, noting that the lineup’s depth made it difficult for opponents to focus on a single threat.
Wren also highlighted the players’ mental resilience, saying the team refused to let early setbacks derail their season-long objectives.
Stars on the Rise
Among the standout performers were Cooper Lehning and Jayden Brooks, who each claimed victories in the home run derby and the fastest‑man competition during the regional round, underscoring the team’s blend of power and speed.
The squad finished the season with a 20‑2 record, a tally built on a mixture of small‑ball tactics such as bunting and stealing, and a potent power hitting approach that produced numerous walk‑off wins.
Assistant coach Josh Barfield emphasized that the team’s chemistry was a cornerstone of its success, describing a culture where every player supported one another both on and off the field.
Barfield noted that the players’ camaraderie translated into a collective confidence that helped them navigate the pressures of high‑stakes games.
Looking Ahead to Branson
The upcoming World Series will bring together the nation’s elite 12U teams, and Eagle Lake’s coaches say the experience will be a valuable milestone for the young athletes.
Beyond the diamond, both coaches stressed that the journey has taught the players lessons in perseverance and teamwork that will serve them well beyond baseball.
