Hachimura had stepped away from the national program after the 2024 Paris Olympics, citing concerns over the association's direction. His absence was notable, especially as Japan prepared for a crucial qualifying cycle that would determine its spot in the world tournament.
The camp, which begins on August 11, brings together 14 players, among them free‑agent guard Yuki Kawamura, who recently completed a stint with the Chicago Bulls. The group will stage two friendlies against South Korea on August 15 and 16 before moving on to competitive matches.
Qualifiers on the Horizon
Japan is slated to face Saudi Arabia on August 28 and Qatar on August 31 in the qualifying round, a schedule that places the team in a tight race for advancement. The matches will be played on home soil, adding pressure and excitement for the players and fans alike.
