Iowa’s women’s basketball program has announced a scholarship offer for the class of 2029, targeting Bella Swisshelm, a 6‑foot‑1 combo guard who has already made a splash in Ohio high school circles.
The Hawkeyes’ coaching staff highlighted Swisshelm’s blend of size, shooting efficiency and defensive instincts when describing the decision to extend the scholarship.
A Quick Rise in the Rankings
During her freshman season at West Clermont High School, Swisshelm averaged 19.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 2.5 assists while shooting 65 percent from the field and 42 percent from three‑point range.
Ranking services have placed her at the top of Ohio’s 2029 prospects, and she also competes with the elite Legends U club circuit, where her performances have drawn national notice.
The offer places Iowa among a growing list of suitors, including Ohio State, Indiana, Michigan State, Northwestern, Boston College and UCF, all of whom have extended scholarships to the young guard.
Coaches say the recruitment could bolster the Hawkeyes’ backcourt depth and add a versatile defender who can stretch the floor, traits that align with the program’s recent tactical shifts.
Swisshelm’s decision will likely be watched closely by analysts who view her as a potential cornerstone for both high school and college pipelines in the Midwest.
