Former Auburn linebacker Takeo Spikes recently appeared on the Jim Rome Podcast, where he voiced an unequivocal endorsement of Alex Golesh as the ideal leader to steer the Tigers forward.

Spikes highlighted Golesh’s command of the process, his deep understanding of the game, and a track record of success that he described as ‘a proven product.’
Golesh’s ascent began on the sidelines of a modest Ohio high school before he climbed the ranks to become offensive coordinator at Tennessee, where the Volunteers topped the nation in yards per game in 2022.
That season the Volunteers averaged 525.5 yards per game, with a passing attack that ranked fifth nationally at 326.1 yards per game, propelled by quarterback Hendon Hooker.
His offensive brilliance carried over to South Florida, where in three seasons he posted a 23‑15 record and guided the Bulls to the third‑best scoring offense in the country, averaging 488.7 yards per game.
Auburn fans are already imagining the possibilities, especially with playmakers like Byrum Brown, who starred at South Florida, potentially joining Golesh in the SEC.
Spikes, an Auburn All‑American who helped the Tigers capture the 1997 SEC Championship and later enjoyed a 15‑year NFL career, knows what winning looks like on the Plains and believes the new coaching direction could restore that glory.
