After a breakthrough season that produced a school‑record 28 victories and a Sweet 16 appearance, the Nebraska men's basketball program is turning its attention to the upcoming 2026‑27 campaign. The Huskers will use a trio of preseason exhibitions to fine‑tune their roster and chemistry before the regular season begins.
Pre‑Season Tests
Nebraska’s first test arrives on Friday, Oct. 9, when the Huskers travel to face the Saint Louis Billikens. The game marks the first of three preseason matchups, with a second contest scheduled for Oct. 16 at BYU’s home arena in Provo, Utah. A third exhibition will be announced later, giving the team additional flexibility in shaping its preparation.
Saint Louis arrives in the preseason with momentum of its own, having captured the Atlantic 10 regular‑season title last year with a 29‑6 record. The Billikens return nine players from that squad, including three starters, which should provide a sturdy test for Nebraska’s younger core.
Head coach Fred Hoiberg has repeatedly emphasized the value of these exhibition games, describing them as essential building blocks for a team that must replace key contributors while integrating new talent. His comments underscore a deliberate approach to conditioning the Huskers for the rigors of a full schedule.
Last season’s leading scorer, Pryce Sandfort, returns to lead the offense, having averaged 18.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Alongside him, the Huskers will rely on the experience of returning veterans to complement a recruiting class that could add depth at the guard and wing positions.
