A New Home for the Championships
The Georgia High School Association has confirmed that the state basketball championships will be staged at the Georgia State Convocation Center in Atlanta for the next two seasons, ending a long‑standing tradition in Macon.
The 8,000‑seat arena, which began hosting Georgia State University sports in 2022, has already served as the backdrop for several GHSA semifinal rounds over the past four years, giving it a proven track record for high‑stakes high school basketball.
The championship slate comprises 16 games that feature boys and girls titles across every classification, ensuring that each division gets its moment under the bright lights of the new venue.
Capacity and Crowd Management
GHSA executive director Tim Scott highlighted the facility’s ability to accommodate large crowds, recalling games that have drawn as many as 10,000 spectators, and said the move reflects a strategic decision to leverage the arena’s modern amenities.
From Macon to a New Arena
The shift comes as Macon prepares to build a brand‑new venue, a development that will eventually replace the current site and signal a fresh chapter for the tournament’s logistics.
