A three-year partnership on the horizon
App State Women's Basketball and Virginia Tech have agreed to a three-game series spanning the next three seasons, with the Mountaineers hosting the Hokies at the Holmes Center during the 2027-28 campaign.
The series opens with a Dec. 9 road test in Blacksburg, Va., before a return engagement in Boone in 2027-28 and a final away game in the 2028-29 nonconference schedule.
The 2027-28 meeting will be App State's first home game against a power-conference opponent since the 2017-18 season, when the team faced Georgia Tech.
Historically, the two programs have met 16 times previously, with the most recent encounter dating back to December 2020.
Virginia Tech's recent resurgence
Virginia Tech entered the agreement with a strong recent track record, finishing the previous season at 23-10 and securing an NCAA Tournament berth for the fifth time in six years, highlighted by a 2023 Final Four run.
The Hokies' success has been guided by head coach Megan Duffey, whose leadership has helped the program maintain a national presence.
Both schools anticipate that the series will offer valuable exposure, competitive challenges and a chance for fans to experience high-level basketball in different venues.
