A New Chapter in the Pacific Northwest
Former Arkansas forward Malique Ewin officially signed with the Oregon Ducks on Monday, a move first reported by On3.
Ewin’s path to Eugene has been anything but linear. After beginning his career at Ole Miss, he transferred to South Plains Community College, then spent a season at Florida State before landing at Arkansas, where he spent the past year developing his game.
Now a senior, Ewin will be eligible for a fifth year of competition thanks to a recent NCAA rule that grants an extra season to athletes who have already completed four years of college basketball. He will also be counted as a fourth‑year Division I player, giving the Ducks a seasoned presence in the frontcourt.
Rebuilding in Eugene
Oregon’s program, which finished the previous season with a 12‑20 record, is hoping that Ewin’s size, skill set and playmaking ability can provide the spark needed to climb back into contention.
The Ducks’ frontcourt will receive a boost from the 6‑foot‑10 forward, who averaged 9.8 points and 5.7 assists per game last season. His versatility allows him to operate both inside and on the perimeter, a combination that could diversify Oregon’s offensive schemes.
Meanwhile, Arkansas is currently in the Bahamas, where the Razorbacks are taking part in a four‑game summer exhibition series at the BahaMar Summer Hoops League. The trip offers the team a chance to gel early and give fans a preview of the new‑look roster.
Arkansas has also been active in the transfer market, securing commitments from Furman center Cooper Bowser and Georgia guard Jeremiah Wilkinson. The Razorbacks will also welcome eight freshmen, including five‑star prospects Jordan Smith, Abdou Toure, Miikka Muurinen and JJ Andrews.
The team will be without returning wing Isaiah Sealy for a stretch after he announced on June 13 that he will undergo knee surgery. Center Nick Pringle has exhausted his eligibility, while Darius Acuff, Meleek Thomas and Trevon Brazile were all drafted into the NBA.
Elsewhere, several other Arkansas players entered the portal, with Karter Knox, D.J. Wagner and Elmir Dzafic committing to Louisville, Maryland and Connecticut respectively. The ripple effect of those moves underscores the volatility of the current transfer landscape.
For Ewin, the transition to Oregon represents both a fresh start and an opportunity to leave a lasting imprint on a program eager to rewrite its narrative. As the Ducks prepare for the upcoming season, all eyes will be on the former Razorback to see whether his experience can translate into wins.
