A New Home for the State Championships
The Georgia High School Association announced that the state basketball championships will be staged at the Georgia State Convocation Center in Atlanta for the next two seasons, shifting from its previous venues.
The 16‑game schedule will feature title contests across every classification, with both boys and girls brackets receiving equal billing.
The 8,000‑seat arena, which has been a regular host of GHSA semifinals for the past four years, offers the capacity and infrastructure needed for the tournament’s growing crowds.
GHSA Executive Director Tim Scott said the facility’s size and location make it ideal for accommodating the thousands of fans who traditionally turn out for the finals.
The venue has already proven its versatility, having hosted Georgia State University sporting events since 2022 and serving as a backdrop for numerous community tournaments.
The partnership was confirmed by the Atlanta Journal‑Constitution, which reported that the move reflects a strategic effort to centralize the championships in a modern, accessible location.
Organizers expect attendance to remain robust, with past championship games drawing crowds of up to 10,000 spectators, a figure the new arena is well positioned to handle.
