Jacksonville University’s women’s soccer program celebrated a milestone this season as senior defender Paula Herranz earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women’s Players to Watch list, a honor that highlights the most promising talents across Division I.
A Breakout Season
In her inaugural year with the Dolphins, Herranz started every one of the 19 matches, anchoring a defense that helped the team post its most successful campaign in a decade.
Historic Firsts
She becomes the first Jacksonville University athlete to be named to the national watch list since the lists were introduced before the 2022 season, and she is the only defender from the ASUN Conference to receive the recognition.
Accolades and Teammates
Her impact extended beyond the back line, contributing a goal and two assists while earning Third‑Team All‑South Region honors and a spot on the All‑ASUN second team. She shares the distinction with teammate Alicia Rey Perez, marking the first time Jacksonville players have appeared on an All‑Region squad since 2016.
Looking Forward
Before arriving in Jacksonville, Herranz honed her skills at Eastern Kentucky University, where she was recognized as both an All‑ASUN selection and an ASUN All‑Freshman designee, setting the foundation for her current breakout performance.
