Boston College Athletics issued a statement on Tuesday confirming that Bob Thompson, the head coach of the men's soccer program, is stepping down from his position effective immediately.
The announcement comes as the university taps associate head coach Francesco D'Agostino to serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season, ensuring continuity for the team's campaign.
Thompson explained that he is choosing to step away to prioritize his family after a rewarding tenure at Boston College, expressing gratitude to God, the players, his coaching staff and colleagues for the relationships built during his time with the program.
He added that he remains confident in the team's culture, the character of its players and D'Agostino's ability to guide the program successfully throughout the current season.

William V. Campbell Director of Athletics Blake James acknowledged Thompson's meaningful impact on the men's soccer program and the broader student‑athlete experience, noting his appreciation for Thompson's service and extending best wishes for his next chapter.
