Archbishop Carroll High School in Columbus, Ohio, has terminated the employment of football head coach Mike Pomfret effective immediately after an incident that occurred during an acclimatization practice at Ohio Dominican University on July 28.
Pomfret, a 2007 alumnus of the school who had been hired in January 2025 to lead the program for his second season, also taught physical education at the school and was placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.
Interim Leadership Appointed
The administration named assistant coach Mitch Weitz, who also serves as the boys bowling head coach, as interim football head coach while the search for a permanent replacement continues.
Principal Matt Sableski issued a statement emphasizing that the school remains committed to providing a safe, positive, and faith‑filled environment for all students, underscoring the importance of accountability and community trust.
The move reflects the school's zero‑tolerance approach to conduct that jeopardizes the welfare of its athletes, and it signals a broader effort to reinforce safety protocols across its athletic programs.
