Chinese Professional Baseball League Eyes Global Expansion with Historic Korea Tryout

Miryang’s baseball hub prepares for Summer Games as league seeks Asian collaboration

A Milestone Tryout in Miryang

The Chinese Professional Baseball league marked a historic moment by conducting its inaugural overseas tryout in Miryang, a city renowned for its baseball infrastructure. The event drew more than 120 applicants, of whom 59 were selected to showcase their talents in front of league officials.

Among the invitees were 23 former players from the Korea Baseball Organisation, including veterans Han Juseong, Jan Wonho, Kang San and Gu Jangik, who previously suited up for clubs such as Doosan Bears, SSG Landers and Lotte Giants. Their participation underscored the league’s intent to bridge talent across borders.

The coaching staff for the upcoming Summer Games will be led by Koo Dae-Sung, a former KBO, NPB and MLB pitcher, who will also serve as the Shanghai Dragons’ manager. Under his guidance, hitting coach Kim Yong-Dal will help shape the squad’s offensive strategy as the Dragons prepare for competition.

Miryang’s ambition to become a hub for major sporting events is evident in its seven dedicated baseball stadiums, which will host the CPB Summer Games slated to begin in August. The tournament will feature five teams, with the inaugural champion being the Shenzhen Bluesox, who edged the Shanghai Dragons in a hard‑fought three‑game series.
