Lamar High School’s football team is gearing up for the 2026 season after finishing 2025 with an 8‑4 record and a narrow playoff quarterfinal loss to Liberty of Mountain View. The campaign featured signature victories over Class 1 state champion Tipton and Class 3 state champion Seneca, giving the program a glimpse of its potential.
A Roller‑Coaster Year Turns Into Momentum
Head coach Jared Beshore called the previous year a "roller coaster" of highs and lows, noting the team’s ability to bounce back from early setbacks and string together wins that showcased both offensive firepower and defensive grit.
The roster returns 60 players, roughly ten more than a year ago, and is anchored by a senior class of 14 veterans. That depth provides continuity on both sides of the ball and positions the team to build on the chemistry forged during the 2025 run.
Offensively, the Tigers will rely on three three‑year starters who were integral to the 2024 state championship squad: seniors Terren Williams, Logan Martin and Brady Gire. Williams, a first‑team all‑state running back, amassed 1,152 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns last season, including seven 100‑yard games.
Junior Clayton Powell took over late in the year at quarterback and threw five touchdown passes, while versatile threats Jaydin Moore and Brayden Wolfe are expected to expand their roles. The offensive line also benefits from the experience of Rustin Forst, who adds stability to the front.
Defensive Leaders Return
Defensively, the team retains first‑team all‑state performers Luis Salas and Terren Williams, who combined for 47 tackles and five sacks. Senior Troy Onstott anchors the defensive line, while junior Bryer Eidson, who recorded 60 tackles and two sacks, will man the linebacker spot. The secondary brings back Toby Ansley, who logged 100 tackles and five TFLs, and Waylon Molting, who contributed 51 tackles, both earning second‑team Big 8 honors.
Schedule Outlook
The 2026 slate opens with a jamboree in Webb City, followed by road games at Aurora before returning home to face Seneca and Christ Preparatory (Kansas). Those early tests should provide a clear gauge of where the Tigers stand as they aim to translate last season’s momentum into another deep playoff push.
