Island Coast High School’s New Coach Justin Midgett Aims to Revitalize Football Program

Rebuilding Culture, Embracing Wing-T Offense and Fun in Spring Practice

Justin Midgett arrived at Island Coast High School with a clear mission: to reshape the program’s culture and restore its competitive edge after a 1‑9 season that left the Gators reeling.

Working with a modest roster of 33 players, Midgett is emphasizing discipline, fitness, and a new offensive identity that draws on his experience both as a player and a coach.

Emphasizing Fun and Fundamentals

The team is adopting the Wing‑T offense, a scheme Midgett knows well, even though the squad currently lacks a traditional quarterback. Instead, Dontavian Wilson will take snaps from under center, adding a new dimension to the attack.

Jamesley Descollines has emerged as a vocal leader on both sides of the ball, embodying the discipline and hustle Midgett expects from his unit.

The Gators will test their progress in a spring game against Aubrey Rogers on May 22, a matchup that Midgett says is less about the scoreboard and more about letting the players enjoy the game.
