A Data‑Driven Era Begins for Texas Tech Baseball
Texas Tech University announced Tuesday that Jacob Evans, a former All‑Big 12 pitcher and longtime pitching consultant, will assume the role of Director of Pitching Development for the Red Raiders program.
Evans, drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the sixth round of the 2015 MLB Draft, carved out a nine‑year professional career that included a 3.50 career earned‑run average across 93 major‑league and minor‑league appearances, and he reached Double‑A in the Cardinals system in 2018.
During his college years at Oklahoma, he posted a 16‑8 record with 17 saves, earned a 1.67 ERA in 2015, and was named a Second‑Team All‑Big 12 selection, while also collecting Academic All‑Big 12 honors and later being inducted into the 2019 Broken Arrow High School Hall of Fame.
Since hanging up his glove, Evans has split his time between the University of Oklahoma, where he served as an assistant pitching coach, and Central Oklahoma Community College, where he worked as a pitching coach, while also consulting for PitchingWRX, a platform that provides data‑driven instruction to athletes at every level.
A native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Evans has spent the past seven seasons immersed in collegiate baseball environments, building a reputation for blending traditional scouting with advanced analytics to refine pitcher development pathways.
Tim Tadlock, the Red Raiders’ head coach, said the hire reflects the program’s commitment to modernizing its pitching staff. “Jacob brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of producing results,” Tadlock remarked. “His data‑centric approach aligns perfectly with the direction we want to take.”
The new role will see Evans overseeing the design of throwing programs, integrating biomechanical feedback, and mentoring both current pitchers and incoming recruits, with the aim of elevating the Red Raiders’ national standing.
