Themed Matchups and Community Celebrations
SIU Athletics has unveiled the promotional schedule for its 2026 home football season, promising a lineup of five games each anchored by a distinct theme that engages fans and highlights university traditions.
The opening contest on September 12 marks Family Weekend, when the Salukis host Southeast Missouri State in the annual War for the Wheel rivalry, celebrating campus heritage with a Maroon Out atmosphere.
Southern Illinois Day will take place on October 3, spotlighting local communities and businesses with a matchup against Youngstown State, a program that enters the season ranked ninth nationally.
Homecoming arrives on October 17 with a high‑profile showdown against Illinois State, the fourth‑ranked team in the country, and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN, accompanied by alumni festivities.
The Blackout Cancer game on October 24 will see the stadium bathed in black, encouraging fans to wear the color and honoring survivors through special tributes.
Military Appreciation Day on November 14 will pay tribute to veterans and active‑duty service members, featuring special recognitions and promotions as the team faces South Dakota State, a preseason top‑ranked opponent.
Each of these events is paired with a dedicated sponsor — Banterra Bank, IBEW Local 702, IBEW‑NECA, the SIH Foundation and SI Roofing — who will provide fan experiences ranging from White Out themes to Maroon Out celebrations.
The full slate will also welcome matchups against UNI and additional rivals at Saluki Stadium, promising a varied and exciting season for Saluki supporters.
