Baylor University and Baylor Scott & White McLane Children's Medical Center have partnered to honor pediatric cancer patients with a special helmet decal that will appear on the Bears' gear during their September 19 showdown with Louisiana Tech.
A Child’s Vision Becomes a Symbol
The design, dubbed the "Helmet of Hope," was born from the imagination of six‑year‑old Ilaria Ramirez of Cameron, Texas, whose sketch incorporates the words "faith," "victory" and "strength" in bright, hopeful colors.
When the Bears take the field at McLane Stadium, the decal will adorn each player's helmet, turning the game into a moving tribute that aligns with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and invites the crowd to join a Gold Rush celebration.
Tabitha Ramirez, Ilaria’s mother, shared a message of trust in God’s plan, quoting Romans 8:28 to underscore the family’s faith as the campaign rolls out across the stadium.
Commitment to Care
Dr. Nicholas McGregor, a leading pediatric oncologist at the medical center, emphasized the institution’s dedication to delivering cutting‑edge oncology treatment and emotional support for families navigating the challenges of childhood cancer.
Beyond the game, the partnership highlights the hospital’s role as the sole pediatric facility between Austin and Dallas, offering a Level IV NICU, pediatric trauma care and a full spectrum of specialized services.
Fans are encouraged to wear gold attire and spread the word, turning a single football game into a nationwide call for awareness and solidarity with children battling cancer.
