UNC Greensboro’s baseball program revealed a significant addition to its coaching roster, welcoming Skye Bolt, a former Major League Baseball outfielder, and Hazen Lancaster, a recent UNCG graduate, as assistant coaches.
Bolt’s professional trajectory includes stints with the Oakland Athletics, Atlanta Braves, Milwaukee Brewers and San Francisco Giants, where he earned three Minor League All-Star honors. His collegiate roots run deep, having been named a Freshman All-American at the University of North Carolina and recognized as UNC’s Outstanding Male Newcomer in 2013.
A Dual Focus on Mechanics and Development
After retiring from playing, Bolt transitioned into coaching, serving as a hitting coach and player development instructor with THE HOOD ATL. In that role he refined mechanics, enhanced pitch recognition and worked closely with collegiate athletes on offensive preparation.
Lancaster, who completed his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2026, pitched six times for UNCG in 2026, striking out six batters with a standout performance against Mercer and Samford. Prior to college, he excelled at Broughton High School and earned a spot on the NJCAA Regional 10 All-Academic Team in 2024 after transferring from Pitt Community College.
Head Coach Cody Ellis highlighted the complementary strengths each new assistant brings, noting that Bolt’s major‑league hitting expertise will directly shape the team’s approach at the plate, while Lancaster’s recent experience as a student‑athlete will bridge the gap between on‑field strategy and player development.
Together, they are expected to deepen the program’s focus on outfield fundamentals, refine hitting mechanics and provide a continuous pipeline of mentorship for the current roster. Ellis expressed confidence that this blend of professional insight and fresh collegiate perspective will accelerate the team’s growth and competitive edge.
The additions come at a pivotal moment as the Spartans prepare for the upcoming season, aiming to translate enhanced coaching resources into tangible results on the diamond. Fans and analysts alike are watching closely to see how the new staff will influence the program’s trajectory.
