Brooks Bahr, a recent missionary who spent two years serving in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, has rejoined the basketball world by committing to Brigham Young University. The 6‑foot‑5 guard chose the Cougars over a slate of elite programs, citing a lifelong dream of winning a championship at BYU.
Coach Kevin Young, who took over after Mark Pope’s departure, highlighted Bahr’s physicality, competitive drive and skill set, drawing comparisons to former BYU star Richie Saunders. Young noted that Bahr’s daily weight‑room regimen has transformed him into a stronger, more conditioned athlete.
Bahr’s senior season at Keller High School saw him average 17.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists, earning him a national ranking of No. 25 among combo guards. His decision to join BYU over Utah, USC, Wake Forest and others reflects both the program’s tradition and its recent resurgence under Young, who boasts a 60 % win rate in Big 12 play and a Sweet 16 appearance.
The Cougars’ backcourt already features veterans such as Rob Wright III, Nate Pickens, Dawson Baker and Collin Chandler. Bahr is expected to earn minutes off the bench, adding depth and a sparkplug presence as the team pursues fast‑paced, competitive play.
