Former elite hockey players Andrew Carter and Arianna Kosakowski traveled to Fitchburg last weekend to work with young street hockey participants, sharing the lessons they learned on the world stage.
Championship Foundations
Both athletes captured gold at the International Street and Ball Hockey Federation World Championships in Czechia in June 2024. Carter, a goalie, posted a .933 save percentage and a 1.70 goals‑against average, earning Tournament MVP honors in the final. Kosakowski, a defenseman, contributed a goal and seven assists across seven games and secured a spot on the All‑Tournament First Team.
Carter’s hockey roots trace back to the Chipmunk rink in Leominster, where he first laced up skates at age five. Kosakowski honed her skills through Division 1 play at Union College before earning a place on the U.S. women’s national roster.
During their Fitchburg visit, the duo joined practice sessions for the Leominster Bombers and the Fitchburg Raiders. Carter focused on goaltender positioning and proper form, while Kosakowski led drills for defensemen and forwards, guiding the youth through skill‑building exercises after a weekend tournament.
A Crowd Like No Other
The atmosphere at the Czech championships dwarfed the college arenas Kosakowski had known, with one match drawing 1,500 enthusiastic young fans. That electric environment underscored the global reach of the sport and left a lasting impression on the visitors.
