A Sudden End to a Promising Run
The Wilson City Little League All-Stars saw their Southeast Region tournament hopes evaporate on Tuesday night, as the Georgia state champion American Little League of Columbus rolled past them 12-3 in a play-in showdown.
Georgia opened the scoring with a four-run burst in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a timely triple that set the tone for a game that would quickly slip out of Wilson City’s reach.
A Week of Close Contests
Wilson City had fought its way through two earlier victories, only to fall twice to Greenville Tar Heel in the North Carolina Ages 8-9 state tournament, a setback that made the regional berth all the more precious.
The same week also saw Northwood Little League of Taylors edge Florida’s Niceville-Valparaiso champion 5-3, while Greenville Tar Heel posted an 8-0 shutout of the Georgia side, positioning two North Carolina clubs for the championship matchup.

Coaches and players alike said the experience will serve as a building block for future campaigns, even as the dream of a title slips further away.
