The historic Argyle Square Court in Camden, London, is set for a major upgrade as part of a collaborative effort to strengthen the city’s basketball infrastructure.
The renovation will be financed through a combination of private contributions, most notably from NBA forward OG Anunoby, alongside a £317,000 grant from Camden Council and a $20,000 pledge from the National Basketball Players' Association.
A Memorial with Purpose
Central to the project is a tribute to Anthony "TJ" Hibbert, a local figure who died in a car crash earlier this year, featuring a dedicated plaque and a small garden space that will keep his legacy visible to future generations of players.
Sagal Abdi‑Wali, leader of Camden Council, emphasises that the upgraded venue will serve as a lasting legacy site for basketball development across the capital.
Local basketball groups such as Argyle Kings have welcomed the investment, expressing optimism that the improved facilities will nurture talent and deepen the sport’s roots in the area.
The National Basketball Players' Association will contribute $20,000 (approximately £14,872) to the project, underscoring the trans‑Atlantic support for community‑driven sport initiatives.
