A Las Cruces court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of former New Mexico State University basketball standout Deshawndre Washington, who is accused of 15 sexual assault-related counts stemming from alleged hazing incidents during the 2022‑2023 season.
Prosecutors allege that Washington engaged in a series of abusive acts, including one count of criminal sexual penetration in the second degree, seven counts of false imprisonment and five counts of criminal sexual contact in the fourth degree, targeting former teammates and student managers.
Washington, who was playing professionally in Dubai while on bond, was ordered to return to the United States by April 28, 2026. His failure to appear for jury selection on August 3 prompted Judge Conrad Perea to sign the arrest warrant, citing flight risk and potential danger to the community.

Social media feeds from Lebanon’s Sagesse Club show Washington on the court earlier this month, and an internal email from The Crew Management claimed his travel was delayed due to regional conflicts, though the court was informed he was scheduled to fly back on August 4.
The case has reignited discussions about accountability in college sports, with New Mexico State University facing scrutiny over its handling of the allegations. A gag order now restricts media commentary, underscoring the sensitivity of the proceedings.
