A New Era for the Barrie Colts
John Winstanley, who most recently served as General Manager of the North Bay Battalion, has been named President of Hockey Operations for the Barrie Colts, a role that will oversee the team’s hockey strategy, player development and organizational culture.
Winstanley’s career spans more than a decade of front‑office leadership, including a ten‑year stint with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens where he guided the club to an OHL Cup title in 2018 and captured multiple provincial championships.
Prior to his managerial successes, he honed his playing experience with the Sudbury Wolves in the OHL, scoring 37 points in 62 games before transitioning to coaching and administration.
His philosophy centers on developing both players and people, emphasizing culture, character, accountability and professionalism as the foundation for sustained excellence.
Championship Ambitions
The appointment comes as the Colts look to build on recent on‑ice achievements, having reached the 2026 OHL Championship Series under Winstanley’s leadership and aiming to translate that momentum into a championship program.
