Quarterfinal Thriller at Siegel Complex
In a tightly contested TSSAA State Championships quarterfinal, the nationally-ranked Bearden squad edged out Cleveland 4-2 at the Richard Siegel Soccer Complex in Murfreesboro.
A Sudden Surge
After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Bearden erupted with three goals in just ten minutes, shifting momentum decisively.
Sloan Bolaños opened the scoring for Cleveland, extending his program-record tally, while Timothy Styles answered with a brace for Bearden, and Logan Wilson added an unassisted strike to seal the final margin.
Coach Miles Christian, reflecting on the loss, praised his team’s effort despite the setback, acknowledging the quality of the opposition.
The victory sets up a much-anticipated rematch next season, with Cleveland poised to return ten of eleven starters and chase another state‑title run.
Bearden’s earlier 4-0 shutout of Cleveland and a solitary defeat to Baylor underscore the fine margins that define the tournament.
Ranked No. 1 in the state by MaxPreps, Bearden will now await the next round of competition as the season progresses.
