Weather Forces Schedule Change
The exhibition match between Portland State and Oregon State that was slated for Wednesday, August 5, was moved to Friday because of soaring temperatures and degraded air quality across the Portland metro area.
The game will be played in Corvallis, though the exact kickoff time has yet to be confirmed, giving both programs a brief window to adjust logistics.
Portland State, known as the Vikings, will use the postponement to fine‑tune preparations before their season‑opening showdown against Oregon at Hillsboro Stadium on August 13, scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
The Vikings enter the campaign with modest expectations, having been selected sixth in the Big Sky Conference preseason poll, a placement that reflects both the competitive depth of the league and the team’s recent progress.
Weber State topped the poll with 74 points and five first‑place votes, while Idaho followed closely with 70 points and four first‑place votes, underscoring the tight race for the conference crown.
Utah Tech secured third place with a single first‑place vote and 63 points, and the fourth and fifth spots were claimed by Northern Arizona and Eastern Washington, garnering 60 and 50 points respectively.
Portland State’s 36 points placed them sixth, setting the stage for a season that could see them climb the standings if early performances match the coaching staff’s optimism.
