Historic Wins Across the Area
The 2026 season will be remembered for the surge of local programs that posted at least twenty victories, a milestone achieved by five area squads. Liberty High finished 26‑17 and returned to the 4A state tournament for the second consecutive year, while City High reached a 3A substate final with a 22‑win campaign. Solon and Clear Creek Amana each captured their first WAMAC West Division titles in four seasons and advanced to substate finals with records of 24‑10 and 24‑12 respectively. Regina posted its highest win total since 2018 at 26‑4, and West Branch earned its first winning season since 2019 with a 17‑15 record.
The annual Your Prep Sports all‑area baseball team features twenty‑four of the region’s top performers, a mix of college recruits, all‑conference selections, school record holders and state qualifiers. The roster reflects the depth of talent that has emerged across the area this year.
Evan Schmierer of Liberty High serves as captain of the 2026 squad, a distinction that underscores his dominance at the plate. He ranks among the top five in Class 4A with a .496 batting average, a .577 on‑base percentage and a 1.241 OPS, helping Liberty High secure a second straight state tournament appearance.
Other standout players include Adam Bowman of City High, who went 7‑0 with a 1.55 ERA and earned first‑team all‑division honors; Jaryn Sertterh of Liberty High, a 6‑3 pitcher with a 2.73 ERA; Tate Miller of Solon, an 8‑0 pitcher with a 1.41 ERA; Blayne Roberts of Clear Creek Amana, who rebounded from injury to finish 6‑0 with a 1.56 ERA and claim first‑team all‑WAMAC West honors; and Luke Young of Clear Creek Amana, the WAMAC West player of the year who batted .392 and earned all‑division recognition.
